Dua for Protection from Sickness of the Heart: Pride and Arrogance

Protection
Sahih HadithKitab al-Adhkar 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, and the change of Your protection, and the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure. And I seek refuge in You from the hardship of affliction, and the attainment of wretchedness, and the evil of fate, and the rejoicing of enemies.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatek, wa a'udhu bika min jahdil-bala', wa darakish-shaqa', wa su'il-qada', wa shamatatil-a'da'.

This comprehensive dua can be recited at any time, but it is particularly poignant to recite it after the obligatory prayers, or during the times when dua is more likely to be answered, such as the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah. It's especially relevant when one feels their heart becoming heavy with worldly concerns or the subtle whispers of pride, reminding us to constantly turn to Allah for spiritual well-being.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, reflecting on the meanings of each phrase. Raise your hands as you would during supplication, and make a firm intention to actively guard your heart against these inner ailments. Understand that this dua is not just words, but a sincere plea to the One who controls all affairs.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates seeking refuge from a multitude of evils, both external and internal. By seeking refuge from the 'change of Your protection' and 'all of Your displeasure', we are implicitly asking Allah to safeguard us from the inner sicknesses like pride and arrogance, which are manifestations of His displeasure and can lead to the loss of His protection and blessings. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself would frequently seek refuge in Allah from these very things, showing the critical importance of spiritual health.
