Protection
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4423

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and grief, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect for reciting daily, especially in the morning and evening. It's particularly relevant when you feel the weight of financial worries or the stress of debt. Make it a habit, even when things seem stable, to seek Allah's protection against these very real struggles.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction. Face the Qiblah if possible, raise your hands slightly, and call upon Allah. Reflect on the meanings of each phrase as you say it, truly seeking His refuge. It's recommended to say it at least once after every obligatory prayer and consistently each morning and evening.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah for protection from four significant burdens: mental anguish (distress and grief), lack of ability (incapacity and laziness), moral weakness (cowardice and stinginess), and the specific material and social hardship of overwhelming debt and being controlled by others. By seeking refuge in Allah, we acknowledge that true protection and relief come only from Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this comprehensive supplication, showing its vital importance in safeguarding our well-being.
