Protection
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2710

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the destruction of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. I seek refuge in You from the trial of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Fire. I seek refuge in You from the evil of the trial of wealth, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of the trial of poverty. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my sight, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my sexual organ.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawaali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fujaa'ati niqmatika, wa jamee'i sakhatika, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-qabri, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatin-naari, wa a'udhu bika min sharri fitnatil-ghinaa, wa a'udhu bika min sharri fitnatil-faqr, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'ee, wa min sharri basaree, wa min sharri lisaanee, wa min sharri qalbee, wa min sharri maniyee.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is best recited after every obligatory prayer, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It's particularly relevant when you feel vulnerable to negative influences, emotional distress, or the potential for harm from those close to you. The sweeping protection it seeks can shield you from various forms of suffering, including those stemming from broken trust or deceit.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm belief in Allah's power to protect. Raise your hands slightly as you make the supplication, especially if you are reciting it immediately after Salah. Focus on each phrase, internalizing its meaning and the specific harms you are seeking refuge from. The Prophet ﷺ taught us to seek Allah’s protection in all aspects of our lives, and this dua encapsulates that plea beautifully.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound statement of reliance on Allah for comprehensive protection. By seeking refuge in Allah from the 'destruction of Your blessings' and the 'change of Your protection,' we acknowledge that true security comes only from Him. The mention of seeking refuge from the trials of the grave and the Fire shows our concern for our eternal well-being. Crucially, seeking refuge from the 'evil of my hearing, sight, tongue, heart, and sexual organ' addresses the very faculties through which deception and betrayal can manifest or be caused. It's a holistic shield against both internal and external harms, safeguarding our faith, our worldly affairs, and our relationships from insidious evils, including betrayal by loved ones.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min fitnatil-qabri, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatin-naari, wa a'udhu bika min sharri fitnatil-ghinaa, wa a'udhu bika min sharri fitnatil-faqr, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'ee, wa min sharri basaree, wa min sharri lisaanee, wa min sharri qalbee, wa min sharri maniyee.'
