Pregnancy & Newborn
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 3105

I seek refuge for him (or her) in the Perfect Words of Allah, from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye.

U'eezhuhi bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaitanin wa haammatin, wa min kulli 'aynin laammatin

When to Read

This dua is particularly powerful when recited for a newborn, especially during the initial days and weeks after birth. You can recite it over your baby, perhaps when they are sleeping peacefully or after you have performed the 'Aqiqah (sacrifice). It's a beautiful way to begin nurturing their connection with Allah from the very start of their life, asking Allah to protect them and imbue their hearts with His remembrance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt connection to Allah. You can gently blow over your newborn after reciting, or place your hand on their head or body. The intention is to seek Allah's protection and to ask Him to plant the seeds of His 'knowing' (Ma'rifah) in their nascent understanding. Repeat it regularly, making it a part of your daily routine of caring for your child.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates seeking Allah's comprehensive protection from all forms of harm – spiritual (devils) and physical (beasts, evil eye). By seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words, you are implicitly invoking His names and attributes of al-Qadir (The All-Powerful), al-Aleem (The All-Knowing), and al-Hafiz (The Protector). It's a foundational step in raising a child who understands Allah as their ultimate source of safety and guidance. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself used this dua for his grandchildren Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), demonstrating its immense virtue. (Sahih al-Bukhari 3105)
