In the name of Allah. O Allah, make easy for me its carrying and its delivery, and its provision. And protect him/her and accept him/her from me, and make him/her sound and healthy, with no deficiency or excess. Make him/her righteous, and grant him/her good character. Make him/her a means of joy for his/her mother and father. Make him/her among Your righteous servants, and cause him/her to grow in Islam a good growth. Make him/her a coolness to our eyes (a source of great joy) for me and his/her mother, and make him/her among the people of the Quran.
Bismillaah, Allahumma hawwin 'alayya hamlahu wa wida'atahu wa rizqahu. W'ahfazh-hu wa taqabbal-hu minnee waj'al-hu saleeman mu'aafan, laa ziyaadata feehi wa laa nuqsaana, waj'al-hu baarran, waj'al-hu hasanal-khuluqi, waj'al-hu sababan li-ummihi wa abeehi, waj'al-hu min 'ibaadik-as-saaliheen, wa anbit-hu fil-Islaami nabaatan hasanan, waj'al-hu qurrata 'aynin lee wa li-ummihi, waj'al-hu min ahlil-Qur'aan.
When to Read
This dua is highly recommended to be recited by parents, particularly the mother, or any guardian, during pregnancy, especially at the time of birth, and can also be recited for a newborn child at any point thereafter. It's a beautiful supplication to make right after the child is born, or as part of the 'Aqiqah (sacrifice) preparations.
How to Read
Recite with sincerity and a pure intention. Face the Qiblah if possible, or at least face the child. Place your hand on the child's head or forehead while making the dua. Make it a regular practice to supplicate for your children's well-being, character, and connection to the Quran.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua seeks Allah's blessings for the child's physical health, righteous upbringing, good character, and a strong connection to the Quran. By asking Allah to make the child 'among the people of the Quran,' we are praying for them to be those who recite, understand, implement, and are guided by the divine word, which is a tremendous honor and a source of immense good in this life and the next. It also emphasizes the importance of the child being a source of joy and righteousness for the parents.
Source & Authentication
The foundation of this dua is found in the Hadith where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was brought newborns. He would pray for them, saying: "بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيكَ وَعَلَى فِطْرَتِكَ وَتُسْقَى غَمَامَةً" (May Allah bless you and your innate nature and may you be watered by clouds). (Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 1277). The extended version above, including the plea to be made among the people of the Quran, is a compilation of good supplications that reflect the Sunnah and the aspirations of a believer for their offspring.
