I seek protection for you with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.
U'eezuka bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaitanin wa hammatin, wa min kulli 'ainin lammah
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited by parents or guardians for a newborn, particularly when exposing them to new environments or situations. It's a way to invoke Allah's protection over the child as they begin to experience the world, from the gentle breeze of the wind to the vastness of the sky. Imagine holding your baby close, perhaps on a balcony overlooking a garden or during a walk in a park, and whispering this dua. It's a practice rooted in seeking divine care for the little one's well-being.
How to Read
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would recite this dua for his grandsons, Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them). He would typically blow gently onto them after reciting. So, you can place your hands on your newborn's head or chest, recite the dua with sincerity and a clear intention of seeking Allah's protection, and then gently blow (without saliva) onto them. It's an act of love and reliance on Allah, asking Him to shield the child from any harm as they explore the blessings of His creation.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful shield granted by Allah. The Prophet's ﷺ practice of reciting it for his grandsons shows its immense value. By seeking refuge in Allah's 'perfect words,' we are asking for protection that is complete and all-encompassing, safeguarding the child from unseen evils like the whispers of shaitan and the harmful effects of the 'evil eye' ('ain). It also extends to physical dangers from creatures, implying protection from anything that could cause harm in the natural world.

Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, saying: 'I seek your protection with Allah's perfect words, from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Your father (Ibrahim) used to seek refuge with Allah for Ismail and Ishaq with this invocation.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3371)
