I seek protection for you with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every envious eye.
U'eezubika bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammati, wa min kulli 'aynin lammatin
When to Read
This dua is beautifully suited for reciting over a newborn, especially during the initial days and weeks of their life. It can be said after the 'Aqiqah' (the ritual sacrifice for a newborn), or simply as a personal act of supplication by parents, guardians, or anyone who wishes well for the child. It's a way to imbue the child's environment with divine protection from the very beginning.
How to Read
This dua should be recited with sincere intention and love for the child. Gently place your hand on the child's head or body and recite the dua, breathing gently over them afterward. You can repeat it three times for added emphasis, as is the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in seeking protection for himself.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication invokes Allah's perfect words for protection, shielding the newborn from unseen evils like devils and harmful creatures, as well as the malice of the envious eye. It's a profound way to begin a child's life under Allah's care, fostering a sense of security and divine guardianship from infancy.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain, saying: 'A'udhu bi-kalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammati, wa min kulli 'aynin lammatin.' (I seek protection with the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye). Then he would say: 'Your father (i.e. Ibrahim) used to seek refuge with it for Ismail and Ishaq.' Sahih al-Bukhari 3308
