بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm on earth nor in the heavens, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
Bismillahilladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim.
When to Read
This powerful dua is especially relevant for a mother during her postpartum period. It's a time of immense physical and emotional change, and she may be feeling vulnerable. Reciting this, especially when feeling unwell or worried about recovery, can bring immense peace and a sense of divine protection. She can recite it daily, after her obligatory prayers, or whenever she feels a need for strength and healing. It's also a beautiful dua for family members to make for her. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this for protection against all ailments and harm, which is particularly needed during this sensitive time.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, placing your hand on your chest or the chest of the person you are making dua for. Focus on the meaning of the words – seeking Allah's protection, recognizing that no harm can come if He does not permit it, and trusting in His hearing and knowledge. It’s best to recite it facing the Qiblah if possible, with a clear mind and a humble heart. Doing so three times in the morning and three times in the evening is a Sunnah practice for comprehensive protection.

This dua is a shield against all forms of harm, both physical and spiritual. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'Whoever says it three times in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity unexpectedly until the evening, and whoever says it three times in the evening will not be afflicted by any calamity unexpectedly until the morning.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 3869). For a new mother, this offers solace from the anxieties of recovery, potential infections, or emotional distress. It reinforces faith and reliance on Allah, reminding us that ultimate healing and strength come from Him alone.

Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no servant who says, in the morning of every day and the evening of every night: Bismillahilladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim (In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm on earth nor in the heavens, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing) - three times - but that he will not be afflicted by any calamity unexpectedly until the morning, and whoever says it in the evening, he will not be afflicted by any calamity unexpectedly until the morning.'
