O Allah, forgive me and my parents, and have mercy on them as they brought me up when I was young.
Allahumma-ghfir li wa liwalidayya warhamhuma kama rabbayani saghira.
When to Read
This beautiful dua can be recited anytime, but it's particularly meaningful to make it after a Salah, during the last third of the night, or on Fridays. You can also make it a habit to recite it daily, asking Allah to grant your parents continued well-being and joy.
How to Read
Recite with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude for your parents. Imagine Allah's mercy enveloping them. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking for Allah's forgiveness and mercy for them. Making this dua consistently is a beautiful way to honor them and fulfill a right they have over you.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is directly from the Quran, signifying its immense importance. It acknowledges the sacrifices parents make in raising their children and seeks Allah's immense mercy and forgiveness for them in return. Making dua for parents is a continuous act of worship that brings blessings to both the child and the parents, even after they have passed away. 'When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three things: a continuous charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for them.' (Sahih Muslim 1631). Praying for their joy and peace in retirement is a profound extension of this righteous action.
