โœฆ

Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar

When to Read

This beautiful and comprehensive dua is from the Quran itself, a direct supplication taught to us by Allah. It's perfect for reciting anytime, but especially meaningful when you specifically think about the well-being of your parents. Imagine making this sincere plea to Allah after Fajr, or perhaps during the golden hours of the day, dedicating its immense barakah to your mother and father. You can also incorporate it into your daily prayers, making it a consistent habit to remember them in this manner.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart, visualizing your parents receiving the blessings you are asking for. Remember that dua is a powerful act of worship. It's best to raise your hands in supplication, as is the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ, and to face the Qiblah if possible. Start by praising Allah and sending salutations upon the Prophet ๏ทบ, then make this dua for your parents, and finally, conclude with salutations on the Prophet ๏ทบ again. Even if you can't raise your hands, the sincerity in your heart is what truly matters.

Virtues & Benefits

This ayah encapsulates the totality of a believer's aspiration. By asking for 'hasanah' (goodness) in this world and the hereafter, we are asking for everything that is pleasing and beneficial in both realms. For our parents, this means seeking for them a life of ease, contentment, health, righteous children, success in their endeavors, and a good reputation. In the hereafter, it means forgiveness, a high station in Jannah, and protection from hellfire. This dua reflects the deep love and concern we have for our parents, fulfilling a part of the immense rights they have over us. Allah Himself has taught us this comprehensive plea, highlighting its importance and effectiveness.
