اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful (provision) instead of Your unlawful, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I may not need anyone other than You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This dua is perfect to recite after any obligatory prayer, or during times of sincere supplication, especially when you are thinking about your parents and their well-being. You can also make it part of your daily routine, perhaps after Fajr or Asr prayers, dedicating its reward to your parents.

How to Read

Recite this dua with full conviction, imagining Allah's provision flowing to your parents. Maintain a state of ritual purity if possible, face the Qiblah, and raise your hands as you supplicate. Believe in Allah's power to grant their needs, and remember that seeking lawful means to improve their situation is also part of the effort.

Virtues & Benefits

This profound dua encapsulates a complete plea for financial well-being. By asking to be sufficed with lawful provision, we are seeking protection from the temptations and harms of unlawful earnings. The second part, asking to be enriched by Allah's grace, means that our needs are met through Him alone, fostering independence and reliance solely on the Creator. When we make this for our parents, we are channeling this powerful supplication towards their financial freedom and security, earning immense reward for our kindness and obedience to the command to honor our parents.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'My son complains that he is suffering from a stomach ache.' He said: 'Go to the medicine of Harith ibn Kaladah. He is a physician, so obey him, and ask him to put honey in water.' The man came back and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I did not find anything but honey.' He said: 'Go and give him honey to drink.' The man came back a third time and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, it did not help him.' He said: 'Allah the Mighty and Majestic says: '...And whatever strikes you of calamity - it is for what your hands have earned, yet He pardons much.' (Quran 42:30) You are asking for wealth, so ask for it through the door of 'Ushr (one-tenth charity), and seek refuge in Allah by His perfect words from every devil and every poisonous creature and from every evil eye.' Then he taught him this dua: اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ (O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful instead of Your unlawful, and enrich me with Your bounty so that I may not need anyone other than You).
