When to Read

This beautiful supplication from the Quran is a cornerstone for showing kindness and gratitude to parents. While it's a general prayer, itโ€™s particularly poignant to recite when you observe your parents facing stress, anxiety, or any form of hardship that disturbs their peace. Make it a regular habit, perhaps after each prayer, or during times you feel a strong connection with Allah, asking Him to grant them tranquility and ease their burdens.

How to Read

Recite this ayah with sincerity and heartfelt intention. Picture your parents in your mind as you make the dua, feeling the gratitude and love you have for them. Understand that Allahโ€™s mercy is vast, and this prayer is a means to invoke that mercy for them. The phrasing is direct, asking for forgiveness and mercy, reflecting the reciprocal nature of care โ€“ just as they cared for you, you ask Allah to care for them.

Virtues & Benefits

This ayah is a direct command from Allah (SWT) to be kind to parents, and this specific supplication encapsulates that sentiment beautifully. It ensures they are remembered with forgiveness and mercy, acknowledging their efforts in raising you. By asking for Allah's mercy upon them, you are essentially seeking peace and well-being for them. The Quran states: "And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] in your care, say not to them [so much as], 'uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, 'My Lord, have mercy on them as they cared for me when I was young.'" (Al-Isra 17:23-24). This ayah highlights that showing mercy to parents is a divine decree, and this dua is a powerful way to fulfill it, bringing them the peace and comfort they deserve.
