Marriage & Wedding
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2707

O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what You have decreed for it, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have decreed for it.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khairaha wa khaira ma jabalta 'alaiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabalta 'alaiha.

When to Read

This dua is particularly relevant when a couple is facing separation, whether due to travel, work, or other circumstances. It can be recited individually by each spouse or together if circumstances allow, seeking Allah's protection over their union and praying for a safe and timely reunion. It is also suitable for reciting during times of marital difficulty, asking Allah to safeguard the marriage from harm and preserve its inherent goodness.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and full reliance on Allah. Raise your hands in supplication, focusing on the meaning of the words. Picture your spouse and your relationship, asking Allah to keep both of you safe and to bring you back together in His mercy. It's a prayer for protection and blessing, so approach it with humility and hope. Repeating it regularly can strengthen your connection through shared supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, originally taught for entering into marriage, powerfully extends to situations of separation. It embodies the essence of seeking Allah's blessings and protection for a spouse and the relationship itself. By asking for 'its goodness and the goodness of what You have decreed for it,' we acknowledge Allah's perfect plan and trust in His wisdom. Seeking refuge from 'its evil and the evil of what You have decreed for it' protects the marriage from external temptations, internal discord, and the whispers of Shaytan. It fosters a sense of mutual reliance on Allah, even when physically apart, and reinforces the understanding that the marriage is ultimately under Allah's care and decree, ensuring safety and promoting eventual reunion.

Source & Authentication

Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: The Prophet ﷺ taught us this supplication to make when marrying a wife: "Allahumma inni as'aluka khairaha wa khaira ma jabalta 'alaiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabalta 'alaiha." (O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what You have decreed for it, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have decreed for it.)
