Marriage & Wedding
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2073

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَمْلِكُهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ

O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty and Your mercy, for indeed, no one possesses them but You.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlika wa rahmatika, fa innahu la yamlikuha illa ant.

When to Read

This dua is particularly relevant for newlyweds embarking on their married life, especially when facing unexpected financial challenges. Recite it during times of need, after prayers, or whenever you feel the weight of financial concerns. It’s a beautiful way to acknowledge that all provision comes from Allah and to seek His abundant grace during this significant life transition.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincerity and certainty in Allah's ability to provide. Raise your hands, as is the etiquette for supplication, and humbly ask Allah. Focus on the meaning of the words, recognizing that wealth and ease are His to bestow. It can be recited individually or together as a couple, strengthening your reliance on Allah as you build your life together.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a profound expression of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and reliance on Him. By specifically asking for Allah's 'fadl' (bounty, grace) and 'rahmah' (mercy), the believer acknowledges that provision and ease are not merely material but divine gifts. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua when his companion Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa mentioned that he had asked Allah for something. The Prophet ﷺ’s response highlights the importance of asking Allah alone for our needs, as He is the sole possessor of His bounty and mercy. For newlyweds, this cultivates a foundational practice of seeking Allah's help in all aspects of their new life, including financial stability and ease, strengthening their bond with their Creator and each other.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Abdullah bin Abi Awfa said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on a journey, and he said: 'Seek some need from your Lord.' So we said: 'What shall we seek?' He said: 'Seek Paradise and protection from the Fire.' Then he said: 'And what is this that I hear from you?' We said: 'We are seeking from our Lord health in our bodies and ample provision.' He said: 'Indeed, if you are healthy in your bodies and have ample provision, then you have attained Paradise and protection from the Fire.' Then a man from the people said: 'O Allah's Messenger, shall we be rewarded for what we eat and drink and what we spend?' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Indeed, Allah does not reward these things with something like them, but He rewards them with Paradise and protection from the Fire.' Then Abdullah bin Abi Awfa said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "He who is content with Allah as Lord, Islam as religion and Muhammad (ﷺ) as Prophet, he is assured of faith." Then he said: "O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty and Your mercy, for indeed, no one possesses them but You."'
