Marriage & Wedding
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1479

O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, grant me well-being among those whom You have granted well-being, take me into Your care among those whom You have taken into Your care, bless me in what You have bestowed, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. For You decree and are not decreed against, and none whom You have befriended is humbled. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted.

When to Read

This is a comprehensive dua that can be recited regularly, especially during the night or after prayers. You can make this specific dua for your spouse during times of supplication, seeking Allah's protection for them from engaging in or being affected by gossip and slander, which are harmful to relationships and individuals.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and conviction, facing the Qiblah if possible. Raise your hands in supplication as taught in the Sunnah. Focus on the meaning of the words and implore Allah to protect your spouse's tongue and reputation, and to keep them away from environments where such talk is prevalent. Making dua for others, especially for your spouse, is a highly recommended act.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, often recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in his nightly prayers, encapsulates a comprehensive request for guidance, well-being, protection, and blessings. By asking Allah to protect your spouse from evil decrees, you are implicitly seeking protection from sins like backbiting and slander, and from their negative consequences. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'The dua of a Muslim for his brother in his absence is answered. An angel is appointed near his head. Whenever he prays for his brother with goodness, the angel says, 'Ameen, and the same to you.' (Sahih Muslim 2185). Making this dua for your spouse strengthens your bond and invokes Allah's special care upon them.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say when arising for the night prayer: 'O Allah, Lord of Jibril, Mika'il, and Israfil, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and that which is apparent, You judge between Your servants regarding that wherein they differed. Guide me to the truth by Your leave, for verily You guide whomsoever You will to a straight path. O Allah, guide me, for You are the Guide, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed, for You decree and are not decreed against. And none whom You have befriended is humbled. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted.' This comprehensive prayer was part of his routine, seeking Allah's complete favor and protection. (Sunan Abi Dawud 1479, Sahih Muslim 770)
