Seeking Solace and Strength: Dua for Emotional Healing in Tahajjud

Night Worship & Tahajjud
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad null

O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment upon me is realised, and Your decision concerning me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You, which You have named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any one of Your creation, or kept exclusively to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxieties.

Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya h ukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qadaa'uka. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kit abika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'alal-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When the world is asleep, and you find yourself alone with your Lord, turn to Him with sincerity. It's a perfect supplication when you feel overwhelmed by past hurts, lingering sadness, or anxieties that trouble your peace. This is the time when your heart is most receptive, and your reliance on Allah is most direct.

Recite this dua with a sincere heart, focusing on each word and its meaning. Imagine yourself presenting your deepest worries and pains to Allah. Raise your hands in supplication, a sign of your complete dependence on Him. Let your tears flow if they will, for they are a sign of your humility and earnestness. Utter the words with conviction, believing that Allah alone has the power to heal your emotional wounds and grant you peace.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, encompasses a request for the Qur'an to be a source of comfort, guidance, and healing for the heart. By seeking Allah through His most beautiful names and attributes, you are leveraging the immense power of Tawassul (seeking nearness to Allah through His names and actions). The benefit lies in the profound peace and solace that comes from turning to the ultimate Healer, Allah, during the most spiritually charged times of worship. It addresses deep-seated sadness and worry, seeking divine intervention for emotional well-being.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say: 'Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qadaa'uka. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'alal-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.'
