Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 742

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is particularly poignant to recite during the stillness of Tahajjud, especially when facing difficulties or trials. The late hours of the night offer a unique spiritual clarity, allowing us to connect with Allah's wisdom more deeply. As you pray, reflecting on life's challenges, ask Allah to open your heart to the lessons He intends for you to learn.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning of each phrase. Ask Allah for knowledge that benefits you in this life and the hereafter, provision that is pure and lawful, and deeds that He accepts from you. During Tahajjud, this translates to seeking the wisdom behind your trials and the strength to perform righteous deeds despite them.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for spiritual and worldly well-being. Beneficial knowledge helps us navigate life correctly, goodly provision sustains us without making us heedless, and acceptable deeds are our investment in the Akhirah. By asking for these during times of trial, we seek Allah's help in finding the wisdom and strength to overcome them, turning hardship into a means of spiritual growth.

Source & Authentication

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to say, when he finished his Subh prayer: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.) This hadith, though recited after Fajr, contains a foundational supplication that can be integrated into any prayer, especially during the profound moments of Tahajjud when one is seeking guidance and clarity regarding life's tests.
