O Allah, I ask You by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation. Keep me alive as long as You know life to be better for me, and take me unto Yourself when You know death to be better for me. O Allah, I ask You for Your fear in secret and in public, and I ask You for the word of truth in satisfaction and in anger. I ask You for moderation in poverty and wealth, and I ask You for everlasting bliss. I ask You for a comfort of the eye that does not cease. I ask You for contentment after (Your) decree, and I ask You for a pleasant life after death. I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face, and the eagerness to meet You, without any harmful adversity or misleading trial. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith, and make us guides, rightly guided. O Allah, protect our children and our offspring with Your Eye that never sleeps, and protect them with the protection of Islam, and make them among Your devoted servants and Your chosen ones, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Allahumma inni as'aluka bi 'ilmikal-ghaibi wa qudratika 'alal-khalqi, ahyini ma 'alimtal-hayata khayran li, wa tawaffani idha 'alimtal-wafaata khayran li. Allahumma inni as'aluka khashyataka fil-ghaibi wash-shahadati, wa as'aluka kalimatul-haqqi fir-ridha wal-ghadabi, wa as'aluka al-qasda fil-faqr wal-ghina, wa as'aluka na'iman la yanfadu, wa as'aluka qurrata 'ainin la tanqati', wa as'aluka ar-ridha ba'dal-qada'i, wa as'aluka barda al-'ayshi ba'dal-mawt, wa as'aluka ladhdhatan-nazari ila wajhika, wash-shawqa ila liqa'ika, fi ghayri dharra'in mudirratin, wa la fitnatin mudillatin. Allahumma zayyinna bizinatil-imani, waj'alna hudatan muhtadinn.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is particularly potent when recited during Tahajjud (the night prayer), a time when supplications are believed to be frequently answered. It's also fitting to make it part of your regular night prayers or anytime you feel a strong need to seek Allah's protection for your children, whether they are young or grown.

How to Read

Begin by performing Wudu if you haven't already. Engage in Tahajjud prayer with sincerity and focus. After finishing your prayer, raise your hands in supplication and recite this dua with heartfelt earnestness, reflecting on each word. Seek Allah's protection for your children specifically, visualizing them safe and guided. Conclude by making general supplications for yourself and the Ummah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates profound requests for spiritual well-being and divine protection. By asking for Allah's fear (Taqwa) in all states, we seek to remain conscious of Him, which naturally leads to avoiding sin and adhering to His commands. The request for contentment after His decree fosters resilience against life's challenges. Most importantly, the specific plea for the protection of children invokes Allah's encompassing care, akin to His watchful eye that never sleeps, ensuring their safety and guiding them to be righteous individuals. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this comprehensive dua to his companion Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), highlighting its immense value.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught his companion Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) a comprehensive dua to recite. The dua includes seeking Allah's knowledge of the unseen and power over creation, asking for a life and death that are best for him, and supplication for piety, truthfulness, moderation, enduring blessings, joy, contentment, a pleasant life after death, the delight of seeing Allah's Face, and eagerness to meet Him. It also includes a plea to be adorned with the beauty of faith and to be among the rightly guided. Crucially, it contains the specific supplication: 'O Allah, protect our children and our offspring with Your Eye that never sleeps, and protect them with the protection of Islam, and make them among Your devoted servants and Your chosen ones, O Most Merciful of the merciful.' (Recorded in Sunan An-Nasa'i and other collections).
