O Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, our Lord and Lord of all things, the Splitter of the grain seed and the date stone, the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran. I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things You are seizing by the forelock. O Allah, You are the First, and there is nothing before You; You are the Last, and there is nothing after You; You are the Most显 (Manifest), and there is nothing above You; You are the Most Hidden, and there is nothing beyond You. Discharge my debt for me and enrich me from poverty.
Allahumma Rabba as-samawati wa Rabba al-ard, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay', faliq al-habbi wa an-nawa, wa munzil at-Tawrati wal-Injili wal-Furqan, a'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun binasiyatihi. Allahumma Anta al-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shay', wa Anta al-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shay', wa Anta adh-Dhāhiru falaysa fawqaka shay', wa Anta al-Bāṭinu falaysa dūnaka shay', iqdi 'anni dainī wa aghninī min al-faqr.
When to Read
This dua is profoundly suited for the night prayer (Qiyam al-Layl), especially when one's heart is moved to tears. Crying during prayer signifies a deep connection with Allah, a recognition of one's shortcomings, and a sincere plea for His mercy. Reciting this specific supplication when overwhelmed by emotion in prayer can deepen that connection, acknowledging Allah's absolute sovereignty over all creation and His role as the ultimate provider and sustainer. It's a moment of pure vulnerability and reliance, making it ideal for seeking His help with worldly concerns like debt and poverty, alongside seeking refuge from all evil.
How to Read
Recite this dua with humility and a sincere heart, preferably after you have finished your obligatory prayers in the night, or during your voluntary prayers, especially when you feel a spiritual connection that leads to tears. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, acknowledging Allah's attributes mentioned. Even if you cannot weep, the intention and sincerity behind the recitation are paramount. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, though this supplication is not restricted to prayer itself.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua encompasses seeking refuge from all evil, acknowledging Allah's unique divine attributes (He is the First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden), and directly asking for relief from debt and poverty. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companions, demonstrating its immense benefit for both spiritual protection and material well-being. By seeking refuge in Allah from the evil of all things He has control over, we place our trust in His ultimate power to protect us. Asking Him to discharge debt and enrich us from poverty is a direct plea to the One who controls all sustenance.
