O Allah, I ask You for faith that fills my heart, and true certainty until I know that nothing will afflict me except what You have decreed for me. I ask You for contentment with what You have apportioned for me, and for contentment after (Your) decree. I ask You for a pleasant life after death, and the delight of looking at Your Face, and the longing to meet You, without any hardship causing harm or any trial leading astray. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith, and make us guides who are guided.

Allahumma inni as'aluka imanan yubashiru qalbi, wa yaqinan saduqan hatta a'lama annahu la yusibuni illa ma katabta li, wa ridan bima qasamta li, wa as'aluka ar-rida ba'dal qada', wa barda al-'ayshi ba'dal mawt, wa ladhdhata an-nadhtari ila wajhik, wash-shawqa ila liqa'ik, fi ghairi darra'in mudirratin, wa la fitnatin mudillatin. Allahumma zayyina bizinatul imani, waj'alna hudatan muhtadeen

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses requests for the highest spiritual states: true faith, unwavering certainty, and contentment with Allah's decree. It seeks protection from trials and a longing for the ultimate reward – seeing Allah's Noble Face. Reciting it in the blessed hours of the night enhances its potential for acceptance, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ informed us that supplications made during this time are the most likely to be heard. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Our Lord descends every night to the nearest heaven when two-thirds of the night have passed and says, 'Is there any supplicator? Is there any asker? Is there anyone to answer his call? Allah continues like this until dawn.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1145, Sahih Muslim 758)

Source & Authentication

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to pray at night until his feet were swollen. I said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, why do you do this when your former and latter sins have been forgiven?' He said: 'O Aishah, should I not be a grateful servant? And this year, when I have grown old, my two legs became swollen, and I sat behind the Prophet ﷺ and he prayed sitting down. When he finished his prayer, he said: 'O `Aishah, pray as much as you can, for the best deeds are what is done regularly. And when slumber overcomes you while you are praying, you should stop praying until you feel refreshed.' He also said: 'The most beloved of deeds to Allah is the most regular of them, even if it is little.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6464). In another narration, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the night prayer (Tahajjud).' (Sahih Muslim 1163). The specific dua mentioned in this entry is found in Sunan An-Nasa'i and is attributed to the supplications the Prophet ﷺ made. The context of these duas is his exemplary practice of night worship and his reliance on Allah throughout his endeavors.
