Dua for Strength to Resist Temptations during Tahajjud

Night Worship & Tahajjud
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and richness (contentment).

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is particularly potent when recited during the blessed hours of Tahajjud, a time when you are closest to Allah. It's also beneficial to make this dua anytime you feel the pull of temptation, especially when seeking to maintain focus and purity in your worship.

How to Read

Raise your hands as you would for any personal supplication. Utter the words with sincerity, reflecting on each request. Visualize Allah's guidance strengthening your resolve, His piety shielding you, His chastity purifying your heart, and His richness filling you with contentment that makes worldly temptations lose their allure. Repeat it with conviction, knowing that Allah hears your plea.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a profound request for spiritual and material well-being. Guidance (huda) means being shown the right path. Piety (tuqa) means having consciousness of Allah and guarding against what displeets Him. Chastity ('afafa) refers to abstaining from what is unlawful, both in action and thought, and maintaining a dignified demeanor. Richness (ghina) here specifically means contentment and self-sufficiency, so one is not driven by need or desire for the impermissible. By asking for these, you are essentially requesting Allah to grant you the inner fortitude to resist temptations that could detract from your spiritual state during Tahajjud and in all aspects of life.
