Dua for Strength and Patience During Trials: A Tahajjud Supplication

Night Worship & Tahajjud
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3701

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever-effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept with You in the hidden knowledge of the unseen: I ask that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibn 'abdik, ibn amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaibi 'indaka, an taj'alal-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jala'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

Ahmad narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'No servant is afflicted by any worry or grief and says: Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibn 'abdik, ibn amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaibi 'indaka, an taj'alal-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jala'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi (O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever-effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept with You in the hidden knowledge of the unseen: I ask that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxiety) – except that Allah will remove his worry and grief and replace them with joy.' It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn these words?' He said: 'Yes, it is necessary for everyone who hears them to learn them.' (Narrated by Ahmad, Ibn Hibban and Al-Hakim, who said its chain of narration is sahih, and Al-Bukhari in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, and Ibn Sunni.)
