Night Worship & Tahajjud
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6347

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of tribulation, the attainmen of wretchedness, the evil of decree, and the rejoicing of enemies.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min jahdil-bala'i, wa darakish-shaqa'i, wa su'il-qada'i, wa shamatatil-a'da'i

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly meaningful during the stillness of Tahajjud, when one's heart is most receptive and sincere. Recite it after your prayers or during your supplications in the latter part of the night, as you stand before Allah seeking His protection from life's severest tests.

How to Read

Recite this dua with heartfelt sincerity and deep contemplation of its meaning. Understand that you are actively seeking Allah's shield against the worst kinds of trials. Raising your hands slightly, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ in supplication, can enhance the feeling of reliance.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge in Allah from these specific afflictions is a way of acknowledging our weakness and His absolute power. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua, indicating its immense value in safeguarding us from overwhelming difficulties, lasting misery, adverse fate, and the gloating of those who wish us ill. Making this a habit, especially during the blessed hours of Tahajjud, strengthens our spiritual resilience and invites Allah's mercy and protection.
