Dua for Relief from Hardship During Tahajjud

Night Worship & Tahajjud
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 2392

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself by, or revealed to any of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my grief, and a reliever of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyatii biyadik, maadin fiya hukmuk, 'adlun fiya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

This profound supplication is best recited during Tahajjud, the night prayer. The stillness of the night, coupled with the act of standing before Allah, provides a unique opportunity for sincere supplication. Recite it when you feel overwhelmed by hardship, distress, or worry, seeking Allah's immediate relief and comfort. It is also beneficial to make it a regular part of your Tahajjud supplications.

How to Read

Begin with sincere intention and deep contemplation of Allah's power and mercy. Perform Wudu' (ablution) if you haven't already. While in prayer during Tahajjud, or immediately after, raise your hands and recite this dua with full focus and humility. Acknowledge your servitude to Allah and your complete reliance on Him. Repeat the portion you feel most drawn to, or the entire dua, as many times as you feel moved.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua specifically asks Allah to make the Qur'an a source of comfort and guidance, directly addressing grief and anxiety. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a companion who was suffering from distress, highlighting its power to alleviate hardship. By invoking Allah with His most cherished names and attributes, you are essentially presenting your needs through the most effective means, seeking His ultimate mercy and solution.
