Dua for Illumination and Understanding of the Quran at Night

Night Worship & Tahajjud
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1888

O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight, light in my hearing, light to my right, light to my left, light above me, light below me, light before me, light behind me, place light within my soul, make for me a great light, and make for me light upon light.

Allahumma ij'al fi qalbi nooran, wa fi basari nooran, wa fi sam'i nooran, wa 'an yaminee nooran, wa 'an yasaree nooran, wa fawqi nooran, wa tahti nooran, wa amami nooran, wa khalfi nooran, wa ij'al fi nafsi nooran, wa 'adhim li nooran, waj'al li nooran 'ala noor.

The quietude and solitude of the night are ideal for deep reflection and seeking Allah's guidance to comprehend the Quran's intricate meanings. It's a perfect invocation after completing your night prayers or during the moments just before dawn.

Focus your thoughts on the Quran, seeking Allah to open its doors of wisdom to you. This is a personal supplication, best made in a state of quiet contemplation, perhaps after performing Wudu (ablution) and offering voluntary prayers.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a powerful request for divine illumination. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to ask Allah for light in multiple aspects of our existence, symbolizing knowledge, guidance, and spiritual insight.
