Dua for Contentment and Sweetness in Tahajjud

Night Worship & Tahajjud
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 19822

O Allah, I ask You for a soul that is assured, believing in Your meeting, content with Your decree, and satisfied with Your giving.

Allahumma inni as'aluka nafsan bika mutma'innah, tu'minu biliqa'ika, wa tardha bi qada'ika, wa taqna'u bi 'ata'ika.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is perfect for reciting during the blessed hours of the night, especially during Tahajjud or any voluntary night prayer. It's a plea for inner peace and acceptance that can be uttered as you begin your prayer, or during sujood, seeking Allah's help to find true satisfaction in your worship and in His divine plan.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and deep reflection, embodying the meaning of each phrase. Imagine your soul finding its true rest and assurance in Allah (SWT). Raise your hands in supplication as you would during any other dua, and allow the words to flow from a heart yearning for divine contentment. It’s not just about the recitation, but the feeling and conviction behind it.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication directly asks for qualities that make night worship truly fulfilling: a soul at peace with Allah (SWT), assured of His promise of reward, accepting of His will, and content with whatever He bestows. True contentment, or *qana'ah*, is a great blessing that shields us from envy and endless striving for more, allowing us to appreciate the blessings we have and find joy in our worship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua, showing its immense value in seeking spiritual well-being.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka nafsan bika mutma'innah, tu'minu biliqa'ika, wa tardha bi qada'ika, wa taqna'u bi 'ata'ika.' (O Allah, I ask You for a soul that is assured, believing in Your meeting, content with Your decree, and satisfied with Your giving.)
