Night Worship & Tahajjud
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2713

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Magnificent Throne, our Lord and the Lord of all things, the One who causes the grain and date seeds to split and sprout, the Revealer of the Tawrah, the Injeel, and the Furqan. I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things that You are seizing by their forelocks. O Allah, You are the First, and there is nothing before You; You are the Last, and there is nothing after You; You are the Most显 (Zahir), and there is nothing above You; You are the Most Hidden (Batin), and there is nothing closer than You. Pay off our debts for us and enrich us from poverty.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa Rabba al-'arshil-'adheem, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay', Faliqal-habbi wan-nawa, wa Munzil at-Tawrati wal-Injeeli wal-Furqan. A'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun binasiyatih. Allahumma anta al-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shay', wa anta al-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shay', wa anta adh-Dhahiru falaysa fawqaka shay', wa anta al-Batínuu falaysa doonaka shay'. Iqdi 'anna daynana wa aghnina minal-faqr.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is particularly fitting to be recited during the night, especially after completing Tahajjud (night worship). It encompasses seeking Allah's protection, acknowledging His absolute dominion and oneness, and asking for relief from debt and poverty, all while engaging in sincere devotion in the stillness of the night.

How to Read

Recite this dua with heartfelt sincerity and conviction, reflecting on the profound meanings of each phrase. It is best recited in a state of purity, facing the Qiblah if possible, and with a humble and hopeful heart. Consider reciting it after your voluntary night prayers, when your heart is most receptive and your connection with Allah is strongest.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua combines seeking refuge in Allah from all evil with an affirmation of His divine attributes and lordship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to recite this dua frequently. By asking Allah to pay off debts and enrich us from poverty, we are seeking worldly ease and security, which, when sought from Allah, can also be a means of drawing closer to Him. Night worship itself is a key to attaining high ranks in Paradise, and such sincere supplications enhance its value.
