Dua for Acceptance of Duas, Especially During the Night

Night Worship & Tahajjud
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is particularly potent when made during the blessed hours of the night, especially during Tahajjud (night prayer). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as part of his morning supplications, but its essence – asking for beneficial knowledge, good sustenance, and *accepted deeds* – is profoundly relevant to the sincerity and devotion of night worship. Making it after Tahajjud, or even during the final moments of the night before Fajr, amplifies the hope for Allah's acceptance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Imagine the immense grace of Allah accepting your efforts in worship and your earnest requests. It's best recited after completing your prayers, perhaps after the Tasleem (salutation of peace), or as part of your personal supplications during the stillness of the night. Focus on each word: seeking knowledge that benefits you, provision that is pure, and deeds that are pleasing to Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua encapsulates a Muslim's fundamental aspirations. Asking for 'beneficial knowledge' ('ilman naafi'an) means knowledge that guides us, increases our understanding of Islam, and helps us act upon it. 'Good provision' (rizqan tayyiban) encompasses not just wealth, but health, family, and all good things that are lawful and pure. The crucial element is 'accepted deeds' ('amalan mutaqabbalan), meaning actions that Allah favors and rewards. When made during the night, a time when the veil between the servant and the Lord is thin, this supplication carries a special weight, increasing the hope that our efforts in worship and our earnest requests will be accepted.

Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say, when he said the morning prayer, 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.)
