O Allah, guide me among those You have guided. Grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being. Take me into Your care among those You have taken into Your care. Bless me in what You have given me. Protect me from the evil of what You have decreed, for You decree and are not decreed against. Indeed, the one You take as a protector cannot be humiliated. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted.
Allahumma ihdini fiman hadayt, wa 'afini fiman 'aafayt, wa tawallani fiman tawallayt, wa barik li fima a'tayt, wa qini sharra ma qadayt, fa innaka taqdhi wala yuqdha 'alayk, wa innahu la yadhillu man walayt, tabarakta Rabbana wa ta'alayt.
When to Read
Dua al-Qunoot is specifically recited during the Witr prayer. The Witr prayer is a supererogatory prayer performed after the Isha prayer, typically in the last part of the night. It is recommended to recite this dua in the last rak'ah of the Witr prayer, after completing the recitation of the Quran and before bowing (ruku'). It is a moment of intimate supplication, seeking Allah's aid and protection as the night draws to a close.
How to Read
Recite this dua after finishing your recitation of the Quran in the final rak'ah of Witr, while still standing. You can raise your hands slightly, as you would during other duas, though this is not a strict requirement. It's important to recite with sincerity and conviction, reflecting on each phrase and its meaning. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this specific wording, so adhering to it is best. After reciting, you would then proceed to the ruku'.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting Dua al-Qunoot in Witr is a practice established through the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is a powerful supplication that encapsulates a comprehensive request for Allah's blessings. By asking for guidance, well-being, protection from evil, and divine care, we are essentially asking Allah to encompass all aspects of our lives. This dua acknowledges Allah's absolute power and sovereignty, recognizing that He decrees and nothing can change His decree, and that those under His protection will never be humiliated. It is a means of seeking comprehensive divine support and a shield against all adversities.
