Dua for Strength and Patience as a New Mother

New Beginnings
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3841

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

Recite this upon waking, or at any point during the day when you feel overwhelmed and in need of Allah's support. It's particularly relevant when embarking on the journey of motherhood, facing new challenges, and seeking Allah's blessing in your actions and sustenance.

How to Read

Recite with sincere intention and a hopeful heart. Place your hand on your chest, focusing on the meaning. Believe that Allah will grant you what you ask. Repeating this dua regularly can help cultivate a mindset of reliance on Allah and a continuous seeking of His guidance and blessings throughout the demanding, yet rewarding, phase of new motherhood.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks three essential elements for a fulfilling life and a successful journey. Beneficial knowledge ( 'ilman nafi'an') helps in understanding your responsibilities and making wise decisions for yourself and your child. Goodly provision ( rizqan tayyiban') ensures that your sustenance is pure and blessed, which has a direct impact on the well-being of your family. Acceptable deeds ( 'amalan mutaqabbalan') are those that are done sincerely for Allah and are accepted by Him, bringing immense reward and peace. For a new mother, this translates to seeking Allah's help in raising her child with proper knowledge and guidance, ensuring the family is provided for in a lawful and blessed manner, and that her efforts in nurturing her child are counted as righteous deeds.
