When to Read
Recite this dua at the beginning of your fitness journey, perhaps after Fajr prayer, to seek Allah's help in making your efforts beneficial and your commitment steadfast. It's a powerful prayer to ask for the intention and the action to be accepted, which is crucial when embarking on a new endeavor like a fitness routine.
How to Read
With sincerity and conviction, raise your hands and supplicate to Allah. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking for knowledge that guides you in your fitness choices, provision that enables you to pursue it (like time and resources), and deeds that are accepted by Allah, meaning your efforts are sincere and aligned with His pleasure. It's best recited before starting.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) when she asked what to say when starting something new, asks for three fundamental elements for success: beneficial knowledge (to understand how to train and eat right), good provision (which includes the physical ability and the means to exercise), and acceptable deeds (ensuring your intention is pure and your effort is valued by Allah). Seeking this from Allah is key to overcoming initial challenges and maintaining consistency.
