اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً.

‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to say when he started prayer: 'Subhanak Allahumma wa bihamdik, wa tabarakasmuk, wa ta'ala jadduka, wa la ilaha ghayruk.' (Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You! Blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your majesty! There is no god but You). He also reported that when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) rose to pray at night, he would say: 'O Allah, Lord of Gabriel, Michael, Israfil, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, You are the judge between Your servants in that wherein they differed. Guide me to that wherein we differed concerning the truth by Your permission. You guide whosoever You will to the straight path.' He would also say when he rose: 'Allah is the Greatest! Allah is the Greatest! Allah is the Greatest! There is no god but Allah.' Then he would say: 'I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the evil of the cursed Satan, from his arrogance, from his poetry, and from his madness.' And he would recite: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and acceptable deeds.'
