أُعِيذُكَ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

I seek refuge for you with Allah's perfect words, from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every envious eye.

U'idhu ka bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hāmmatin, wa min kulli 'aynin lāmmah

When to Read

This dua is recited upon seeing a newborn, or at any time after birth to invoke Allah's protection for the child. It's particularly fitting during the newborn stage when they are most vulnerable.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, directing your supplication to Allah. You can whisper it near the child's ear, or recite it while holding or looking at them. It's recommended to place your hand on the child's head or body while reciting. You can repeat it multiple times for added protection.

The Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) used to seek Allah's protection for his children, saying: 'O Allah! Verily, I seek protection for them and for all the righteous offspring of my descendants with Your perfect words from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3308). Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain (may Allah be pleased with them) and say: 'Your father (i.e. Ibrahim) used to seek refuge with Allah for Ishmael and Isaac with these words: 'A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hāmmatin, wa min kulli 'aynin lāmmah.' (I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words from every devil, every animal and every evil eye). Sahih al-Bukhari 3109.
