I seek refuge for you with Allah's perfect words from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.

U'eezubika bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hāmmatin, wa min kulli 'aynin lāmmah.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for his grandsons, Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), when they were infants. It is a beautiful tradition to recite this upon seeing a newborn, or at any time you wish to invoke Allah's protection over your child. It can be said daily, especially after Fajr and Maghrib prayers, or whenever you feel a need to safeguard your little one.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt plea to Allah. Place your hand gently on the child's head or body as you recite, focusing on the meaning of seeking Allah's divine protection. Breathe into your hands and gently blow onto the child after reciting, as the Prophet ﷺ did. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, though sincerity is the most crucial element.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua invokes Allah's complete protection, shielding the child from spiritual harm (devils) and physical ailments (poisonous creatures, evil eye). It's a tangible way for parents to fulfill their responsibility of safeguarding their children by turning to the ultimate Protector. By reciting this, we are following the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, which brings immense blessings.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with them) saying: 'I seek refuge for you both with Allah's perfect words, from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Ibrahim (Abraham) (ﷺ) also used to seek refuge with Allah for his offspring (Ishmael and Isaac) with the same words.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 3308)
