Daily Morning Routine
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5088

O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this day, its victories, its help, its light, its blessings, and its guidance. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil of what comes after it.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khaira hadhal-yawmi, fat'hahu, wa nasrahu, wa noorahu, wa barakatahu, wa hudahu, wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadhal-yawmi wa sharri ma ba'dahu.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited upon witnessing the sunrise. It's a perfect way to start your morning routine, connecting with Allah as the new day begins. Imagine standing by your window, or even just turning your face towards the rising sun, and making this sincere supplication.

How to Read

Recite this dua with a sincere heart, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. Raising your hands isn't specified for this particular dua, but sincerity and concentration are key. It's recommended to be in a state of purity if possible, and to face the direction of the sunrise if you can.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for the best of the day and protection from its worst. By asking for 'fat'hahu' (its opening/victory), 'nasrahu' (its help/support), 'noorahu' (its light), 'barakatahu' (its blessings), and 'hudahu' (its guidance), we are essentially asking Allah to make this day beneficial, successful, illuminated, blessed, and aligned with His path. Seeking refuge from the 'sharri hadhal-yawmi' (evil of this day) and 'sharri ma ba'dahu' (evil of what comes after it) shows our reliance on Allah for protection against any harm, both immediate and future. It’s a testament to our understanding that every aspect of our day is in Allah's hands.

A man said to the Prophet ﷺ: O Messenger of Allah, teach me some words to say. He said: Say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this day, its opening, its help, its light, its blessings, its guidance, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil of what comes after it.' The man said: O Messenger of Allah, make them shorter for me. He said: Say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this day, its opening, its help, its light, its blessings, its guidance, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil of what comes after it.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5088). The narrator of the hadith mentioned that he had omitted part of the hadith from the Prophet ﷺ. *Note: The hadith text provided is a summary found in Sunan Abi Dawud and other collections.
