Dua for the Strength to Recite the Qur'an in the Morning

Daily Morning Routine
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and righteous deeds that are accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recommended to be recited immediately after Fajr prayer, before you engage in any other activities of the day. It's a powerful way to set your intention for the morning, asking Allah to bless your efforts in seeking knowledge, earning a livelihood, and performing deeds that please Him, including reciting His book.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, turning to Allah with a humble heart. Raise your hands slightly if possible, and focus on the meaning of each word. Visualize the beneficial knowledge you hope to gain, the pure sustenance you seek, and the accepted actions you wish to perform. Make it a consistent part of your post-Fajr routine.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua in the morning is a Sunnah practice that aligns your intentions with seeking Allah's help in crucial aspects of life. Asking for 'beneficial knowledge' ( 'ilman nafi'an) specifically encompasses the understanding and application of Islamic teachings, including the wisdom found in the Qur'an. Seeking 'pure provisions' (rizqan tayyiban) ensures that your sustenance is lawful and blessed, which in turn allows for stronger worship. The request for 'righteous deeds that are accepted' ( 'amalan mutaqabbalan) is the ultimate goal, as it is only Allah's acceptance that truly matters. By asking for these things at the start of the day, you invite Allah's barakah into all your endeavors, including your recitation of the Qur'an.

The Mother of the Believers, 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: 'The Prophet ﷺ never used to omit four things in his secret and in his public prayers: two Rak'ahs before the Duha prayer, two Rak'ahs before the Asr prayer, two Rak'ahs before the Maghrib prayer, and two Rak'ahs before the Isha prayer.' In another narration, it is reported from 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'O people, take up good deeds only as much as you can, for Allah does not get weary of you until you get weary. And the most beloved of deeds to Allah is the most regular and constant of them, even if it were little.' Sahih al-Bukhari 43 **The specific dua itself is found in Sunan Ibn Majah and other collections, often attributed to the Prophet ﷺ's supplications:** The Prophet ﷺ said: 'When the morning comes, one should say: Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and righteous deeds that are accepted.)
