Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, and provision that is pure, and deeds that are acceptable.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is a beautiful way to begin your morning, ideally recited right after waking up or before engaging in any learning or work. It sets a positive intention for the day, asking Allah for knowledge that benefits both this life and the next, pure sustenance, and deeds that are accepted by Him.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincerity and conviction. Focus on the meaning of each word, reflecting on your desire for Allah's blessings. It's best recited before starting your daily activities, especially before seeking knowledge, attending classes, or beginning your work. Maintaining a state of purity (wudu) is recommended but not strictly required.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates three crucial requests for a Muslim's life: beneficial knowledge ('ilman nafi'an), which leads to righteous action and closeness to Allah; pure sustenance (rizqan tayyiban), which nourishes the body and soul without bringing haram; and accepted deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan), which are the ultimate purpose of our existence and the key to success in the hereafter. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua, highlighting its comprehensive nature for seeking the good of this world and the next. It reminds us that true success lies not just in acquiring knowledge but in its beneficial application, earning honest provision, and performing deeds that are pleasing to Allah.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) said the morning prayer, he would say: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, and provision that is pure, and deeds that are acceptable.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 925). The scholars mention that 'beneficial knowledge' refers to knowledge that brings one closer to Allah and guides them to act upon His commands. 'Pure provision' means lawful and good sustenance. 'Acceptable deeds' are those performed sincerely for Allah's sake and in accordance with the Sunnah.
