Daily Morning Routine
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5074

O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religious affairs, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and calm my fears. O Allah, protect me from in front of me and behind me, from my right and my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your greatness from being unexpectedly attacked from below me.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-`afwa wal-`afiyah fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-`afwa wal-`afiyah fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahummas-tur `awrati wa amin raw`ati. Allahummahfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa `an yamini wa `an shimali wa min fawqi wa a`udhu bi`azamatika an ughtala min tahti.

When to Read

Imagine the early morning light, a fresh start to the day. This comprehensive supplication is one of the most powerful duas we can utter for complete well-being. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite it every morning after Fajr prayer and every evening, ensuring we begin and end our days enveloped in Allah's protection and blessings. Reciting it as the sun begins to peek over the horizon fills the heart with immense hope and reliance on Allah, setting a peaceful tone for the hours ahead.

How to Read

Reciting this dua should be a moment of deep reflection and sincerity. Sit calmly, facing the Qibla if possible, or simply find a quiet moment where you can focus entirely on the words. Let your heart truly feel the magnitude of what you are asking for: forgiveness, well-being in all aspects of your life, protection from all directions, and peace from all fears. Understand that `Afiyah (العافية)` is a holistic term encompassing physical health, mental peace, spiritual strength, and protection from trials in this life and the Hereafter. Utter each phrase slowly, internalizing its meaning and placing your trust fully in Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking `Afiyah` is to ask Allah for a state of complete well-being—physical, spiritual, mental, and social—free from afflictions, worries, and calamities. When we ask for `Afiyah` in our 'religious affairs, worldly affairs, family, and wealth,' we are asking for inner peace that stems from our faith, ease in our daily lives, harmony within our homes, and blessings in our provisions. The dua's request to 'conceal my faults and calm my fears' directly addresses the anxieties that often disturb our inner peace. Furthermore, seeking protection from all six directions, and from unforeseen dangers, instills a profound sense of security, knowing that we are under Allah's watchful eye. This comprehensive prayer effectively draws a shield of divine protection around us, allowing us to navigate life with greater serenity and a tranquil heart, confident in the care of Al-Hafiz (The Preserver).

Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) never failed to utter these supplications in the morning and evening: 'Allahumma inni as'alukal-`afwa wal-`afiyah fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-`afwa wal-`afiyah fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahummas-tur `awrati wa amin raw`ati. Allahummahfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa `an yamini wa `an shimali wa min fawqi wa a`udhu bi`azamatika an ughtala min tahti.' (O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religious affairs, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and calm my fears. O Allah, protect me from in front of me and behind me, from my right and my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your greatness from being unexpectedly attacked from below me.)
