Daily Morning Routine
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 664

اللَّهُمَّ بَيِّضْ وَجْهِي يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ

O Allah, whiten my face on the Day when faces will be whitened and faces will be blackened.

Allahumma bayyid wajhi yawma tabyaddu wujoohun wa taswaddu wujoohun

When to Read

This dua is recited while brushing teeth with miswak in the morning, especially after waking up and before performing ablution or praying Fajr. It aligns with the Sunnah of purifying oneself in the morning.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with the intention of seeking Allah's pleasure and benefiting from the practice. As you brush your teeth with the miswak, visualize the purification of your mouth and ask Allah to purify your countenance on the Day of Judgment.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua seeks Allah's protection from shame and disgrace on the Day of Resurrection. Whitening of the face signifies being granted a good record and entering Paradise, while blackening signifies being disgraced and destined for Hellfire. This practice, coupled with the dua, emphasizes the importance of physical and spiritual purity in Islam.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed al-Khudree (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Brushing your teeth with miswak purifies the mouth and brings pleasure to the Lord. Were it not that I might overburden my Ummah, I would have ordained it upon them for every prayer.' [This narration relates to the general virtue of miswak, and the specific dua is often linked to this practice through scholarly deduction and custom.] Another related narration states: 'It was narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When you brush your teeth with miswak, say: Allahumma bayyid wajhi yawma tabyaddu wujoohun wa taswaddu wujoohun' (O Allah, whiten my face on the Day when faces will be whitened and faces will be blackened.)'
