Dua for Beneficial Knowledge and Connection with the Quran in the Morning

Daily Morning Routine
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

The Prophet ﷺ taught us to recite this powerful dua specifically **after performing the Fajr prayer** (the morning prayer). It is a beautiful way to begin your day, connecting with Allah and setting intentions for beneficial knowledge, sustenance, and righteous actions throughout the day. You can say it immediately after completing your prayer and dhikr.

How to Read

Recite this dua with **sincerity and presence of heart**. Understand the profound meaning of what you are asking for: * **Beneficial knowledge ('Ilman nafi'an):** This includes religious knowledge, understanding the Quran and Sunnah, and worldly knowledge that benefits you and others and draws you closer to Allah. It's knowledge that leads to action and piety. * **Good provision (Rizqan tayyiban):** This encompasses lawful and blessed sustenance, whether it's food, health, wealth, or opportunities. * **Accepted deeds ('Amalan mutaqabbalan):** This is the ultimate goal – for Allah to accept our efforts and worship. Face the Qiblah if you are still on your prayer mat, or simply turn your heart to Allah wherever you are after Fajr. Reflect on each part of the dua as you say it.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates core aspirations of a Muslim. Seeking **beneficial knowledge** is paramount in Islam, as it guides us to understand Allah's commands, His signs in creation, and the wisdom of His Messenger ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever takes a path upon which he seeks knowledge, Allah will make a path to Paradise easy for him.' (Sahih Muslim 2699). When we ask for beneficial knowledge, we are inherently asking for a deeper understanding and connection with the Quran, as the Quran is the ultimate source of divine knowledge. Asking for **good provision** ensures we live a life free from dependency on unlawful means, allowing us to worship Allah with peace of mind. Praying for **accepted deeds** means our worship and efforts in this life are not in vain, but rather weighed heavily on the Day of Judgment. This dua sets a spiritual tone for your entire day, aiming for purity in knowledge, sustenance, and action, which are all pillars of a strong connection with our Creator and His sacred Book.

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say this dua after the Fajr prayer, immediately after completing his prayer and giving salams. This shows its significance as a dedicated supplication to begin the day with these profound requests from Allah.
