The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ passed by Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was speaking and did not greet him. He then passed by me and said: 'Abu Bakr, what prevented you from speaking to me?' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the truth prevented me.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Indeed, the truth is a virtue. What prevented you from speaking to me?' He said: 'I heard you speaking and I did not want to interrupt you.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Abu Bakr, shall I not teach you a supplication which you may say even if it were to be equal to the grains of sand of the desert in amount?' Abu Bakr said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Say: O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best way.' Abu Bakr said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I seek this for myself.'
