When to Read

This supplication is recited immediately after exiting the bathroom, before engaging in any other activity. It's a crucial moment where one seeks Allah's protection from lingering negative influences or intrusive thoughts that might arise after performing a natural bodily function.

How to Read

Recite this dua clearly and with sincere intention. Focus on seeking Allah's refuge from the whispers and temptations of Shaytan. It is generally recited verbally, though internal recitation is also permissible.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a direct supplication taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to ward off the evil influences of Shaytan, especially after a state of relative seclusion like using the bathroom. It helps purify our intention and protect our minds from intrusive whispers and bad thoughts that can lead us astray. By seeking refuge in Allah, we strengthen our spiritual defenses against temptation and maintain a state of spiritual cleanliness.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): He said, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when he came out of the toilet, and he said: "Al-Hamdu lillah" (Praise be to Allah). Then he said: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed devil."' Abu Dawud said: 'Al-Shaytan Al-Rajim' (The Accursed Devil).
