‘Uthman b. Abi al-‘As reported: I came to Allah’s Messenger ﷺ and he was praying. I waited until he finished his prayer. He heard the sound of my voice, and said: What is it that makes you raise your voice? I said: O Allah’s Messenger, my foot has become numb. He said: This is the foot of the one who is treading the path of the Most Merciful (Allah). Then he said: Do you not think about an excellent manner in which you should act? He (the narrator) said: What should I say, Allah’s Messenger? He said: Say: (Alhamdulillahilladhi adhhaba annil adha, wa 'afani - All praise is due to Allah, Who removed hardship from me and granted me well-being), and repeat it three times. He said: You should say: (Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharr al-sam'i wa min sharr al-basari wa min sharr al-lisani wa min sharr al-qalbi wa min sharr al-mani - O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the evil of hearing, and the evil of sight, and the evil of tongue, and the evil of heart, and the evil of sexual organ).
