Guidance & Hidayah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina

When to Read

This is a profound supplication that fits perfectly for those moments when you feel lost, unsure about a decision, or questioning your path. It's especially potent when doubt creeps into your heart, whether it concerns worldly matters or your spiritual journey. Recite it with sincerity when you feel the need for clarity and direction from Allah.

How to Read

Raise your hands as you would during prayer. Utter the words with a humble heart, focusing on the meaning of each request. Believe that Allah, in His infinite wisdom, will respond and grant you what is best. This dua is not just for seeking direction in specific dilemmas, but for cultivating a state of constant reliance on Allah's guidance.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua encompasses four crucial elements for a balanced and fulfilling life. 'Al-huda' (guidance) is the light that illuminates our path, helping us distinguish right from wrong. 'At-tuqa' (piety/God-consciousness) is the shield that protects us from sin and keeps us mindful of Allah. 'Al-'afafa' (chastity/abstinence) is the purity that safeguards our dignity and honor. 'Al-ghina' (contentment/richness) is the inner wealth that frees us from dependence on others and worldly possessions. By asking for these, the Prophet ﷺ taught us a comprehensive way to seek well-being in both this life and the next, especially when feeling adrift.
