O Allah, teach me the Book and wisdom, O Allah, teach me what benefits me, and benefit me with what You have taught me, and increase me in knowledge.
Allahumma 'allimni al-kitaba wal-hikmata, Allahumma 'allimni ma yanfa'uni, w-anfa'ni bima 'allamtani, wa zidni 'ilman
When to Read
This is a comprehensive supplication that can be made at any time, especially after completing a lesson or study session. It's particularly potent when you feel overwhelmed by the intricacies of Fiqh or when you're starting a new topic, seeking Allah's assistance to grasp its essence and to make it a source of benefit.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Imagine Allah's infinite wisdom and knowledge, and beseech Him directly. It’s best recited when you are in a state of purity (wudu) and facing the Qiblah, though its power lies primarily in the sincerity of the supplication itself. Reflect on each phrase: asking to be taught the Quran and wisdom (Sunnah), asking for knowledge that is truly beneficial, and asking for an increase in that beneficial knowledge.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates the essence of seeking beneficial knowledge. By asking Allah to teach us the Book (Quran) and wisdom (Sunnah), we are directly requesting the foundation of Islamic understanding, which includes Fiqh. Asking for what benefits us ensures that our pursuit of knowledge is purposeful and aligned with pleasing Allah. The request to be benefited by what we've learned and to have our knowledge increased is a sign of true scholarly aspiration, aiming for deeper comprehension and the ability to act upon it. Such knowledge, when implemented, earns Allah's pleasure and guides us to act correctly in all aspects of life, thereby fulfilling our obligations and avoiding prohibitions.
