Seeking Allah's Protection from Misguidance and Falsehood

Guidance & Hidayah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنَا سَدَدًا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالعَفَافَ وَالغِنَى.

O Allah, guide me to the right path and make me firm upon it. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.

Allahumma ihdina sadadan, Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.

When to Read

This comprehensive supplication is perfect to recite daily, especially in the morning and evening. It's particularly vital during times when one feels overwhelmed by differing viewpoints or encounters ideologies that seem to deviate from the clear teachings of Islam. Making it a habit fortifies your inner compass against subtle or overt forms of misguidance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt plea to Allah. Raise your hands as you normally would for supplication, face the Qiblah if possible, and feel the weight of your request. Focus on the meaning of each word, asking Allah to illuminate your heart and mind, granting you clarity to discern truth from falsehood and the strength to adhere to it.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking Allah's guidance in this manner directly addresses the core of our need. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this comprehensive request because 'guidance' (Huda) encompasses understanding the truth, 'piety' (Tuqa) means guarding against evil, 'chastity' (Afaf) involves abstaining from what is unlawful or blameworthy, and 'contentment' (Ghina) is the richness of the heart that makes one independent of others. By asking for all of these, we are essentially asking Allah to protect us from being swayed by deceptive teachings, whether they come from individuals claiming prophethood or from extremist ideologies that distort the Deen.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah bin Mas'ud: The Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Allahumma ihdina sadadan, Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.' (O Allah, guide me to the right path and make me firm upon it. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment).
