O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the decline of Your blessings, the reversal of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from being overcome by debt and oppressed by men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. A'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahri ar-rijal.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is a cornerstone for seeking Allah's protection. It's particularly relevant when one feels vulnerable to external influences that could lead one astray, whether it's the seductive rhetoric of extremist groups or the subtle manipulation found in cult-like environments. Reciting it regularly, especially in the morning and evening (as the Prophet ﷺ taught us for seeking refuge), strengthens our inner resilience against misguidance.
How to Read
Make this dua with sincere intention and a heartfelt plea to Allah. Face the Qiblah if possible, with hands raised. Believe that Allah is the only one who can truly protect you. Speak the words clearly and reflect on their meaning. This is not just a recitation; it's a conversation with your Creator, asking for His divine shield against all forms of deviation.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates seeking refuge from many spiritual and worldly ills. By seeking protection from the 'decline of blessings' and 'reversal of well-being,' we are safeguarding our faith and our lives. The specific mention of seeking refuge from 'distress and sorrow,' 'incapacity and laziness,' 'cowardice and stinginess,' and 'being overcome by debt and oppressed by men' is profoundly relevant. Extremist ideologies often prey on individuals feeling distressed, oppressed, or lacking purpose, offering a false sense of belonging or quick solutions. Cults can exploit vulnerabilities like laziness or cowardice. This dua, therefore, serves as a powerful spiritual armor, fortifying us against the psychological and social factors that might make us susceptible to misguidance and extremism.
