اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَىٰ وَالتُّقَىٰ وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَىٰ
O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.
Allahumma inni as'alukal huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina
When to Read
This is a foundational dua for anyone navigating the complexities of modern life, especially the ethical challenges presented by the digital age. Whenever you find yourself facing a difficult decision online – whether it's about what to post, what to believe, how to interact, or what content to consume – making this supplication can help clarify your path. It's a daily practice for grounding yourself in Allah's will before engaging with the online world.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Imagine your online interactions as extensions of your character and your worship. Ask Allah to illuminate your mind, guard your intentions, and keep your actions pure, just as you would in any other aspect of your life. Raise your hands, face the Qibla if possible, and supplicate with conviction.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive supplication is a treasure from the Sunnah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a man who asked him for the best thing to ask Allah for. By asking for *al-huda* (guidance), we ask for clear direction and knowledge of the right path. *At-tuqa* (piety/God-consciousness) helps us fear Allah in our actions, even when no one is watching online. *Al-'afaf* (chastity/abstinence) prompts us to guard our eyes, ears, and tongues from harmful or inappropriate digital content and interactions. And *al-ghina* (self-sufficiency/contentment) helps us avoid the pitfalls of envy, greed, or seeking validation through likes and followers. This dua, when made consistently, is a powerful shield against the moral ambiguities of the digital sphere.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ addressed the people and said: 'O people, verily Allah has commanded you to take the reins of your affairs, so you should not neglect it. He has forbidden you from the sin of disobedience and from the rights of your brother, so do not transgress. He has also forbidden you from the sin of the tongue and from the sin of the heart. And he has forbidden you from disputing.' Then he turned to me and said: 'O Abdillah, tell me, what is the best thing to ask Allah for?' I said: 'O Allah's Messenger, I ask Allah for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' So he said: 'This is the best for you, so ask Allah with this in the morning and evening.' (Sahih Muslim 2721)
