Guide us to the straight path.
Ihdinas siratal mustaqim
When to Read
This is the most repeated dua in our daily prayers, uttered at least 17 times a day in the obligatory prayers alone. It's not just a ritualistic recitation; it's a constant, heartfelt plea to Allah SWT for guidance in every aspect of our lives. We should be mindful of its meaning during each recitation, recognizing our profound dependence on His direction. Beyond prayer, we can consciously reflect on this phrase whenever we face a decision, big or small, seeking clarity and the right course of action.
How to Read
Recite this ayah clearly and with full presence of heart during Salah. Understand that you are directly asking the Creator of the heavens and the earth for direction. Maintain a state of humility and sincerity, acknowledging that true guidance comes only from Allah. When reciting outside of prayer, maintain similar mindfulness and sincerity.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is the very essence of our supplication to Allah SWT. By asking for guidance to the 'straight path,' we are asking for Allah's help to stay away from disbelief (kufr), polytheism (shirk), innovation (bid'ah), and all forms of misguidance. It's a comprehensive request for adherence to the Quran and Sunnah, and for the ability to live a life pleasing to our Lord. Allah SWT says, 'And whoever holds firmly to Allah will be guided to a straight path.' (Surah An-Nisa 4:131). This ayah highlights that seeking His guidance is the key to finding it.
