Dua for Steadfastness: A Prayer for New Muslims

Guidance & Hidayah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2709

اللَّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ

O Allah, make my heart firm upon Your religion.

Allahumma thabbit qalbi 'ala dinik

When to Read

This is a profoundly simple yet powerful dua for anyone, especially those new to Islam, seeking to solidify their faith. Recite it regularly, particularly after prayers or during moments of quiet reflection, to ask Allah for strength in adhering to His commands and staying on the straight path. New Muslims often face new challenges and questions; this prayer is a direct plea for divine support during this crucial transition.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication, just as you would for any other dua. Speak with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of the words and the overwhelming need for Allah's help. Understand that 'steadfastness' (thabat) means remaining firm in belief, worship, and character, even when faced with difficulties or temptations. Make this a personal, heartfelt request to the One who controls all hearts.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua because the heart is a volatile thing, easily swayed. By asking Allah to make our hearts firm on His religion, we are seeking protection against misguidance, doubt, and weakening faith. For new Muslims, this dua is essential as they navigate their new journey, learn about their faith, and potentially encounter external pressures. It's a constant reminder that true strength comes from Allah alone, who guides whom He wills and keeps firm whom He wills.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Umm Salamah said: "The most frequent supplication of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was: 'O Allah, make my heart firm upon Your religion.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is this supplication?' He said: 'O Allah, Maker of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, when the hearts of the children of Adam are between two of the fingers of the Most Merciful, He turns them as He wills.'"
